Spen Victoria Cricket Club

From April to September, every weekend sees Spen Victoria cricket teams enjoying their sport.  Home matches are played on a superb field, acknowledged to be one of the league’s premier cricket grounds.  The quality of the ground is matched by first-class facilities for the players.

The league to which Spen Victoria belongs is the prestigious Bradford Premier League, which has nurtured such illustrious players as England captains Brian Close and Ray Illingworth, amongst many others.

Rohan Gavaskar - India 2004

John Wood - Lancashire 2001-04; Durham 1991-01

Wasim Jaffer - India 2000-06

Mike Smith - Gloucestershire & England 1991-04

Chris Pickles - Yorkshire 1985-92

Spen Victoria currently has two teams in the league, the 1st XI and 2nd XI, both of whom have had many competition successes.  Matches are played every Saturday during the season, with some additional league and cup games taking place on Sundays.

T20 matches are played during the week, and 2022 will see Spen Victoria entering T20 competition matches for the first time.

With plans to introduce a Sunday 3rd XI in the near future, there is no shortage of playing opportunities for new members.  Details of the different types of club membership can be found on our Home page.  We are a friendly and sociable club, with a long history and an exciting future, so if you are interested in joining Spen Victoria Cricket Club, do get in touch with us.  Please contact either the Cricket Secretary, Leigh Manton, 07966 391597 / email , or the Membership Secretary, Keith Hopkins, 07803 263948 / email.

Forthcoming fixtures and match results can be found on the play-cricket web site, which is a comprehensive source of information listing not just fixtures and results but also statistics, team details, match reports and other matters of interest.

During the season, both members and non-members are welcome to hire the cricket ground for private use, provided the ground is not booked for fixtures or practice sessions.  The tearoom overlooking the green can also be hired, and this includes the use of the catering-style gas cooker and food preparation area.

Behind every successful cricket team is another team of “unsung heroes”, and Spen Victoria is always happy to welcome new members as volunteers.  “Hands-on” roles include a groundsman to prepare the pitches and catering staff to provide the cricket teas, whilst on the administrative side, roles include Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, Secretary Junior Section, League Representative, Sponsorship Coordinator and Safeguarding Officer.  If you would like to discuss volunteering opportunities at Spen Victoria, please contact the Membership Secretary, Keith Hopkins, 07803 263948 /

Spen Victoria Cricket Club has been sponsored by A.Leadbetter Transport and Synetiq Ltd for many years and very much appreciates their support.
